Free 3D Game Engines
Great news for simulation and serious game developers: several high-caliber game engines have changed their licensing agreements so that independent and educational developers can use the engines for free. These include:
- Unity 3D
- Unreal Development Kit (based on Unreal 3; 3DBuzz.com includes hundreds of Unreal tutorials)
- CryENGINE 3
This opens the door to a new level of serious game and simulation development, making available game engines for low-budget production. (But before you choose an engine, make sure to read the legalese on licensing restrictions, royalty fees, etc.)
